Jaguar basses: how are they?

I love my Jag even to the point of having it as my main bass for a 3 month gig contract. I must admit, it was really noisy until I did all the shielding (I even shielded the pickups) and grounding. I also changed the bridge to a BAII and installed a new set of Schaller tuners with D-tuner extension.

Overall, the bass sounds great for me and IMO is way better than my MIA jazz that I sold.

Here she is with all the work done....

My Squier VM Jag (original recipe) is a winner. Looks great, plays great, sounds great. The only mod that I did was a hi-mass bridge (straplocks don't really count). A Hipshot Xtender would be a crowning touch, but the extra weight would assuredly cause neck dive, so a counterweight would be needed. I am not wanting to do either of those things, so it is left as-is, and has the potential to be sold, should I grow weary of it.

I’ve had mine for around 4 years now and still love it.
I have shielded and modded mine just a tad.
Put a Hipshot A bridge on which was a great improvement over the stock one.
Swapped the pickups for Nordstrand ‘70s winds and installed a Tonestyler.

The neck is slim, but stable, it hasn’t required any more “weather” adjustment than my chunky P or AM Standard Jazz necks.
No neck dive issues, I use a suede backed strap. I don’t remember if there was a problem before I added the new bridge though.

Seldom use the pre, when I do I use it more as an onboard boost pedal.
