Looks like Joe Sample on piano and Dennis Coffey on guitar.
OMG, I recognized the voice immediately though I had no idea who she was. I was just a wee tyke. What a beautiful person.
That's also "Wah Wah" Watson on guitar right behind Martha. Wow, Martha and the ladies and band sound amazing!
Nice. I didn't necessarily know that Jamerson could read, but he certainly appears to be doing so here. (Maybe that's common knowledge?) Yeah, that's a helluva band!!!
That is indeed Dennis Coffey. I met him a few weeks ago and he remarked that he still owns that Gibson Firebird and regularly plays it.
It literally does not get any better than that, as far as Soul/R&B performance goes.

I take a little comfort in knowing that his hands are not huge meaty hooks (even though he called his technique the hook) and he seems to fret index, middle, pinky (Simandl) even past the 9th fret--like me. It's like he was sort of a regular person. 
I bought his book, read it, & emailed him about SITSOM. I really think he got screwed over. He replied, very graciously. A very cool guy, a very cool musician.
Some of his early albums are available again on cd. I just picked up 2 that I was missing. Still need Instant Coffey. It's on the List.

It's not only this video...ever seen The Isle Of Wight film? That's just the 1st one that popped into my head.
In those early daze, it was easy to pick out which director was act a music fan.
Most were TV guys, I assume.
Don't think Jamerson ever became "a star", either.
Totally great performance, Martha Reeves was exceptional. What a voice; what phrasing. The backing band and b/g vocals were at the top of the pyramid, so cool to hear R&B nailed like that.
As far as the camera not being on James- Although every music lovers' ears heard & felt what he was doing, no one except us TB bass dweebs really cares about the rhythm section. Of course we noticed JJ,and Dennis, and the keys, and percussion, etc. They tore it up!
But the visual focus of the performance would have been on Ms. Reeves and her b/g singers.
Great video regardless.
