Janek Gwizdala Chord Book with a 4 string

I've been pining for a 5 string to string E-C with the intention of learning Janek Gwizdala's Chord Book. I know he says you can learn from the book with a 4 string, but have any others done this?

I'm thinking I am putting the cart before the horse, waiting for a 5 string, when I could just get on with it. But I'm still pretty much a beginner, and I'm wondering if I should just get on with other things I can practice, but is that just making excuses of not learning chords on the bass.

Thanks for the link. I'm kind of ahead of this stage, having picked up a few things from different videos. I picked up shell voicings from Jazz guitar video a while back with the root on E or A string, across a diatonic key. Realised being the lower four strings of a guitar, it would map onto the bass directly. Then some spread voicing of triads, and then 10th. Which seems back to front way to pick up the basics.

So I can keep picking up little nuggets from youtube or approach it in a structured course. I've a loop pedal and I suspect being able to pick up the bass and lay down a groove or harmony, and then jam over with a harmony or groove will be a great way to help me develop, as well as a stack of fun

Just bought this book today, specially because of the 5 string E-C tuning.

If you've got a 4-string with 24 frets, you can get to 99% of the stuff I've gotten thru thus far...which isn't much, but I feel like it surely sets the tone. Part 1 & a chunk of part 2.

I'm working thru the start of ii-V-I and Roy Vogt's TMBG so will come back to Chordal Harmony soon.

Funny thing, very recently I've been thinking I want to find a 5-string tuned with the high C. Going thru this stuff using that C string as well as on the core 4 strings seems like it'd be a real fretboard unlocker.

This new bass is starting to feel comfortable in my hands, I felt a little overwhelmed at first. I'm really enjoying being able to move accross the strings to use familiar shapes, and shapes that I needed to play above the 12th around the 12th instead. The High C notes seem to rally sing, I'm really happy with it.

Someone posted a joke video on Pachebel's Cannon in D, and that's been a little exercise in getting familiar with this bass.
