Jazz Bass headstock bending forward?

This is real stretch, and my logic is probably flawed but....

Maybe this has to do with the truss rod over-shortened and the strings being under a higher tension than normal. Do you notice the strings being particularly stiff when playing?
 
I should mention that the A string, the one that comes out when I play it is a different one from the rest of the set. It was presumably replaced individiually after the original one broke, with little consideration for gauge as it pertains to its fit in the nut.

Fairly common among Fender-esque headstocks. The appearance of the "defect" is exaggerated by inadequate string wraps on each post...they should be hitting the deck to optimize break angle over the nut. The string tree(s) are a given.

Sorry, that isn't an optical illusion, no quotes needed, that is an honest-to-goodness manufacturing defect. Fairly common, only if quality control on raw materials and manufacturing are poor. I'd expect to see this in an abused Teisco del Ray, not a Fender.

Noted although I'm not sure I understand the reference above. I'd like to hear from our tech gurus who see these every day: just how prevalent is it? Is it truly a manufacturing defect or simply a long-standing design flaw that is considered the norm?

That's certainly a fair question. I've seen it before, but very very rarely on Fender US made. Used to be quite common among low quality imports (like, decades ago). I haven't seen one that bad in a long, long time. But I'm not a tech who looks at lots of instruments (outside of my own herd, at least), would certainly be interested in hearing what the pros think. If that was under warranty, though, I would take it back, and if I owned that bass now, I'd be shopping for a new neck.

The fact the G string is entirely out of its nut slot seems to me to indicate a flaw. The string tree creates an angle over the nut but should not be necessary to keep the string in the nut.
Yes, if the string goes back "up" by much at all above the string tree, something is very, very wrong.
 
The irregularities I see should not cause any significant issues with playability, although they are defects. The string tree issue is common in many basses, but the headstock looks terrible. All of it is mainly aesthetic.
Perhaps, but that seems bad enough that a functional problem seems likely in the future.

On Fender design basses, the face of the headstock should be absolutely parallel to the face of the fretboard (well, minus any fb radius, of course), if not, there's a structural problem.
 
Looks like a B string is where the E should be. Could be the wrong string set is on the bass and in an effort to tune it standard is pulling on the headstock.
Perhaps something like that could contribute, but the string should just snap from tension long before the headstock deforms.

Exactly. I wasn't wondering what to about it, rather the rate at which this kind of thing occurs and how many of you guys have had this. Also it seems to be a standard .045 or .050 four string set. It's not that there's a B in place of the E, but that the A string seems to be too heavy.
