Jazz Bass pickup height adjustment problems

Hi Folks,

I've recently got my hands on a Levinson Blade B1 Jazz Bass.

I'm trying to adjust the pickup heights but am having problems. If I loosen the screws to raise the pickup height the screws undo but the pickup doesn't move. I can pull the pickup up so that it meets the screws but they fall back again. It would seem that there is little or nothing providing any tension.

Would should I expect to find if I remove the pickup completely; should I expect to find springs or some kind of sponge.

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Go down to Lowes and get a roll of Low Density door insulation strip foam.

You can use a strip or two stacked together under your pickup. The reason for low density foam is you don't need the stiff stuff to raise a pickup. The surface area under the pickup is quite substantial, and even low density foam will provide a strong spring action to your pickup.
