Jazz bass "piece together"

i'm piecing together a lake placid blue jazz bass with a tortoise shell pickguard. i'm wondering if i should rely on stewmac pickups or go for some fender ones. also whats the comparison on the stewmac necks vs mighty mites. what neck is going to give me the most bang for my buck.
