Jazz basses used on NIN tour

I noticed you used a black Fender Jazz (Geddy Lee model?) with white pickups. Were they DiMarzio or something else?

DiMarzio. I think we covered this in another thread, because I had trouble (and still do) remembering the model number/name of the pickups. Maybe search and you can get more info on it.

Yes, Geddy Lee bass...two of them.

Justin (and Jimmy) - thx for the quick response. I'm realatively new to the board hence the question.
How do DiMarzios compare to stock Fender pickups? I know it sounds like an odd question but I liked the tone when I saw you playing it with NIN (in Seattle, Portland and Denver)
Is Robin Finck as eccentric off stage as on? The world needs more eccentrics

A gutsier tone, leaning more towards a humbucker. Just thicker overall. Not exactly a Jazz bass tone when all's said and done. Not as snappy.

Robin is wonderfully, beautifully eccentric, yes. In the grandest of ways. I'm very happy to call him a dear friend.

I totally agree, extras lows and low mids with less treble. I've got Model J's in my jazz and I describe it as P-bassing up my Jazz a bit. Works good for rock music.

I put a 70's set of those in this cheapo Steinberger copy I used to have. Really beefed up its sound. Never was a great bass, but those pickups made it usable at least. Got a Model PJ set in a pieces parts Fender copy and they sing. Not quite as bright as stockers, but bright enough.
