Jazz pickup mod

Been to the Lakland site, listened to the recordings of the Decade bass. Neck pickup is WAY close to the neck. I like the sound and the big difference between neck and bridge pickups. Seems to open up wider possibilities with regard to blending.

QUESTION: I'm wondering about moving the neck pickup on my Jazz closer to the neck, maybe 1.5" or so. I would have to rout the body and get a custom pick guard made to cover the old P.U. cavity. It's totally do-able.

Any thoughts? Anybody done this?

(No... I don't want to/can't afford to just buy a Decade.)

I don't know your location, but try to stop by your local store and try a Big Al with the middle pickup off. Much better than us trying to put tone in words.
