Jazz pickup pole piece height?

Factory setup on my Fender Jazz that I got recently has the pole pieces for the E and G strings almost flush with the pickup, but the ones for the A and D strings raised up closer. Is it supposed to be this way? It sounds a bit like the A&D are a bit stronger than the E&D. How are the pole pieces adjusted on your bass if your bass has them? Just wondering if I should change the pole piece's height.

Some pickup manufacturers like to follow the radius of the fingerboard with the pole pieces, the same way that your bridge saddles try and mimic the fingerboard radius. the A and D strings are therefore a little higher than the E and G strings. It should in theory help balance the volume of the string signal a little. On the other hand, there are quite a few PU's that are flat. Could be very subtle.
