Jazz vs Precision - Which is best for Slappin' and Poppin'?

Try playing both, I have been playing a MIM Jazz for the last 2 years and picked up a Squier VM Precision this weekend and I love it.
I own all 3 (P, J and the out of left field EBMM mentioned by Beej (SR?)) and a Jazz is IMO 99 out of 100 times a better slap bass than a P. A Stingray is a great bass to slap on too, but a Fender Jazz IMO is the ultimate slap bass on the market....
If you want my personal opinion, I like Ps for slapping more. However, many would disagree with me, and the two basses have very different, but equally great, slapping tones

Thanks! I don't think the P gets the respect it deserves for slap. There's a dirty mid thing that the J won't get, and it's very cool. A decent set of rounds on a decent P and it's in the game.
A P-rex makes a huge presence when he stomps around and shows his teeth. However he's not the most agile, and his environment must bear the burden of him taking up so much space in his habitat. Not a problem if there's a lot of space in the surrounding landscape.
A Jazzoraptor will strike quick and sharp like none other, and can have the menacing ability bolt through a nearby thicket to slice through the unsuspecting flesh of its prey. Flashy, though he certainly could not fill much forest all by his lonesome self.

IME, the J will more predictably deliver a funky slap vibe.
However, there is a massive instrument specific aspect, and you really have to take each instrument one at a time.
Probably the funkiest slap machine I have ever played was one of the '59 P CS Relics. That bass just wanted to be slapped all day. Other P's, and most of them, are really good for producing a good thick groove, but not so great for slapping. Don't know what it was about that '59 relic - just a freakin' great bass.
Use your ears and play a lot of instruments. You'll figure it out.

I think a well-compressed P bass is a force to be reckoned with when it come to slap.
Although I love the jazz tone by itself, I can't ever get it to cut through, or fill out a mix well. I just can't do the skinny neck either (but that's a different subject).

I love slapping on my Stingray right up until the point where I plug it in. Then I put it down and go back to my Fenders (P or J, love 'em both).
