Jazz with flats

Couple things from my experience...

TI flats on a Fender jazz and on a jazz with a good preamp ( like Sadowsky) are hugely different.

Well, when the original Jazz bass came out, it was more often than not mated with a great tube preamp. The Fender Bassman, Showman, or the Ampeg Fliptop, ect. It sounded great.... perfect, really. imho.:)

The Sadowsky, and all of the permutations of that active pu J tone work great too. But that kind of approach to getting the great J Bass sound developed after the advent of solid state amps, with bassists seeking different kinds of articulation and live music getting louder in general. But the tone and feel of the original style of equipment reigns supreme for a classic J bass tone for me.

Just my opinion of course...thoughts?

Hey all, I've been reading TB for years and just joined up! I'm currently using GHS Precision Flats on my '99 MIA Fender Jazz with EMG's. I play through a SA Para Driver feeding an Ampeg BA115.
I've been contemplating trying out TI's but don't know how I will like the tension, and that's a lot of coin to drop. I'm not unhappy with my sound at all, I just always feel like I'm missing out on something greater!
