JBL mains dust cap question

My band has a set of JBL MRX515 mains. While they are nice and light I find them pretty harsh sounding in the 800HZ-4K range and have to cut a lot in that range.

I decided to to run thru them and see if I could discern any problems with the speaker or crossover.
Upon inspection other than everything being loose i found a hole in the glue around one of the dust caps.

FWIW there is no burnt smell from the coil or any visible imperfection and no scratchy noise when I push in on the speaker. Also no visible sign of damage on the crossover overpowering the internal crossover. That's pretty much where my knowledge ends when trouble shooting speakers.

I'm guessing this is just and imperfection in the glue but just trying to rule any possible issue.

It’s not an issue that would account for what you’re hearing in the 800-4 kHz range, if that’s what you’re asking. Might want to seal the hole with a dab of silicone, though.

Thanks Wayne. Yeah should have been more clear. I realize that the hole has nothing to do with the harsh tone, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of some other sort of speaker issue. We bought these speakers used a few years ago and this is the first time I've had the grills off so its probably been there all along.

I think what I'm hearing with the harshness is that...well....these speakers just sound harsh! LOL! We upgraded from some nasty, boxy sounding Carvins and at the time these seemed great. Over the last few years as I've learned more and gotten better at running sound I think my ears has gotten a bit more picky/refined and those harsh 800hz-4K range combine with a roll off at 180hz just irritates me.
