JBL srx722 vs LDS vs ?

I've been wanting to get a pair of JBL srx722 tops for a long while now. I like the size and design as well as the 1.2khz crossover. I don't like that they don't have wheels, top handle, etc for easier tranport. I'd also prefer a 90x50 horn as opposed to the 75x50 on the jbl. Don has built several cabs for me including some 3-way tops that sound just great! So, aside from less re-sale value on some tweaked LDS clones, are there any real advantages to buying the jbl's at probably $700 a piece more? Especially when a dbx driverack is used for eq, etc.

I'd probably use a pair of kappalite 3012lf woofers, with a p.audio bmd740 driver bolted to a ph-3223 horn crossed over at about 1.2k like the jbl's.

I'd appreciate both sides of the argument.

I've worked on a system using those JBL tops a bunch of times, I like them a lot. The compression driver(2451H) is a big ass 4" voice coil monster that stays clean and clear as loud as you could want, and effortlessly goes low enough that you do not miss a mid driver in the slightest. For use with an old school two way midbass+horn type box that compression driver is as good as any I've heard. It's also 1150 bucks from US Speaker.

I have never knowingly heard a p. audio driver. If it performs like that JBL for a sixth the price I'd love to know about it. I'm skeptical.

Im looking for any horn and driver that will go to 1.2khz comfortably. Alot of companies make them starting at around $200 and up. Im just wondering what's so special about the jbl's. I knew that they had the huge horn driver. I've been calling around but, nobody has one in stock that I can listen to. Speakers aren't magic but, some companies charge stupid prices for what they are putting out. The EV qrx 2x12 cabs are crossed over at 1.8k. That leaves a big gap between woofer and tweeter and they still cost almost 2k. That just sounds wrong to me. Thanks for the input. I like to hear from guys who have actually used the gear.

Well, Im pretty much sold on the srx722's but, there is nowhere for me to try them in person around here. Upstate ny 13662. I'd probably run a pair of them with one or 2 dual 18" subs. Probably carvins since I wouldn't have the money left over for the jbl 2x18's. The jbls are about 60lbs heavier too. 100 lbs is about as much as I'd care to move anymore.

They are the real deal, you will like them. Lots of companies make stuff with compression drivers that go down to 1.2K, from much less than the cost of the SRX to much more. They do not all sound the same doing it. The SRX boxes with the large format horns sound good.

I move stuff like this with a hand truck.
