Jerk club manager

Well I talked to the band and they're pussing out on any plans to go get the pay.... And actually accepted an offer to play there 2 more times in the next month!!!!!>:|

I may have to take matters into my own hands with this guy. Next gig I'm definately not leaving until we get paid and if he still refuses then hell will be unleashed via social networks and band boycotts of the venue. AND contacting any DJ's that are booked there about the situation.

It helps if most of the people in your band are hefty looking or TUFF, it works for my band!! I've been told that I always look angry but it's just my normal face I can't help it. Be intimidating with the way you speak too, use big words or ones you'd expect from a smart person along with speaking proper English, look at them dead in the face, don't slouch over, etc. That way they will think you KNOW what your doing and WHAT you want. Giving you a better chance of getting da-MONEEZ!!!!!

I like this method. Ask the bartender to dial 911 for you and hand you the phone. Tell them to send an ambulance and start describing the "victim" as the bartender..... Ask the bartender his age and weight while you are on the phone.

LOL would make a great movie scene, but I know my balls aren't quite big enough for this.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha dammit!!!! I was drinking apple juice!! Now I have to change that was to funny!!

Show up for the next gig. Ask to get paid for the last gig, and this gig up front. If he doesn't pay right then, just leave, and take your fans with you(hopefully you have a lot). His bar will have no band for the night.

If you play there again, do you really expect to get paid?

You should totally incite a Facebook Riot!

The Drummer started and shut down the dress code one;) haha.

And I wasn't the one that accepted the gig at that place again. The aforemented drummer did.... I think I'll smack him next time we have practice>:| And I'm making sure to bring big guys to the next gig there, September 30th (everyone in the band is either fat or scrawny unfortunately). If any of you guys are in the Portland area and would like to come And help get the band get some pay (and see a good show) PM me!

This. Contracts are great, but you have to go to court to enforce them if he doesn't want to pay.

The only leverage you have is this: Does he want you back? Then he has to deal with you fairly.

If you guys (the OP) let him get away with it and play a 2nd date, you've just told him you don't mind not getting paid, and are willing to come back without getting paid. You won't get paid.

Your only real option is to take him to small claims court.
It is not that difficult. It does cost money to file a claim
(was like $80 last time I did it [a long time ago]) but he will
have to pay for that, too, if you prevail.

That fee you pay usually includes having a sheriff (or some
other official) present him with a summons to appear in
court. That is usually enough to get him up off of his ass.
At that point, they usually want to settle because he really
should have a lawyer for this and that is going to cost him
more than just giving you your money. Of course, now he
owes you the original amount plus the fees plus any other
costs you incurred chasing him down.

I wasn't involved in the decision. Last time they committed to a gig without my consent, I ended up being in LA during a show and they couldn't find a bassist to cover the show. Thus they played the show without a bassist, and for the song I play guitar on, they had no rhythm guitarist.

Gonna sit the guys down and either quit, or take over management of gigs/ pay/ recording times after this next show. I'm in charge of ticket sales now (drummer is too stupid) so I at least know what is going on with this gig now.

get the drummer to pay you before the gig and tell him to just keep your share after you get paid..

Since you haven't provided services to the bar for the 2 gigs coming up, I suggest you cancel and let them know you'll be back as soon as you're paid for your last gig. Also, let them know you'll only play gigs there in the future if you're paid upfront.

Accepting gigs should be a band decision, not just one person, especially if that person is making bad decisions.

Good luck.

we've all dealed with people like this.

heres my rules on the subject:

1. DONT LEAVE TILL THE GUY GIVES YOU THE MONEY
2. ask the other bands playing if they got paid, if not then move to step 3
3. be a complete c***.
4. tell local bands not to play this place.
5. tell fans to stop going to the place.
6. send a warning to any bands who might play the venue to not even consider it
7. if all else fails then do what i did. gaffatape his car doors shut

Huh?

Ticket sales?

If you are selling tickets, then that sounds like a pay-to-play situation. Not good, my friend (if such is the case).

You don't say where you're located, but here in WA it's illegal to have minors in a bar.

Have any pics/vids of the gig that clearly identify the place? If your state is like ours, I would just show them to the venue owner and ask him what he thinks Liquor Control would think of them.

Just a little wedge; you won't be playing there anymore, but do you really want to?
