I was doing some more tweaking tonight because the treble response didn't seem quite right and I finally discovered that I had the wrong value pot in there, like way off... That's what happens when you build things in the middle of the night. Anyhoo, mystery solved. Now I can sleep better, it was bothering me all day. Should make dialing it in much easier now!

If I thought the Alembic was worthwhile, I wouldn't have gone to all the trouble of designing my own.

My first units were 1 space, but going to 2 U allowed me to do more with the power supply, layout, and tube choice.

okay, first I wasn't ripping or anything, I have that F-2B and it seemed at first its case has the same dimensions in size. I see the difference in depth. I was thinking about with using concentric controls, (stacks) "all of that could go into this" hence my comment. No derail intended. Just thinking outside the box.

The other advantage of a two spaced rack is that Jonathan can get a power module in although he might do a stand alone amp that is narrower but taller. James Demeter got a power module into his single rack space pre, but to do so he used a power module much less robust and less power than the one that JGR wants to use.

Indeed. It was really tight doing a hand-wired design in a 1U rack, and the 1 space savings doesn't buy you much - folks just fill the space with other crap anyway, so I figured I might as well occupy the real estate. ;)

The power module will indeed fit nicely in a 2U rack format. :bassist:

My main focus is at this point in time is building a product line of proven designs that I can take commercial down the road should I see fit, but I do build a few here and there for friends as time permits.

I spent the afternoon comparing Jonathan's Box-O-Tone (which is the preamp this is based upon---sans eq), the Sonic Farm 2di4, and the Monique with the 1200 watt amp he just built up--------
