The Double Dragon Lo-Fi Octave Device is built on shoulders of 40-50 year old analog octave divider technology — the same technology that gave us the MXR Blue Box, DOD Octoplus, the Boss OC-2, Ibanez OT10, Electro Harmonix Micro-Synth, and other circuits that synth designers helped inspire.

Pre-DSP. Pre-precision. All analog warmth.

Play single notes and you have a riff machine. Play a chord and the circuit starts to stutter, jump, and fight itself, making something new. It's not trying to replicate you perfectly — it's trying to play along with you.

I used the Double Dragon at church rehearsal last night and was quite pleased. It works as a third level drive for big moments. The +1 works quite well, too. Sort of sounds like an overdriven guitar doubling your bass line. I generally use -1 Octave just nudged into audible range for heavier moments to add heft. The DD is doing this duty pretty well.

Yeah man, I’m digging it too for the exact same reasons. The octave up/distortion is a really pleasing tone. It’s one of those ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ toggles. It can take over the band if need be but backs down to subtle modes very well. Great resolution in each of the octave dials.

To my ear it is a mashup of vintage analog octaver pedals the good and the gnarly all at once. In various ways it reminds me of of different pedals I have owned or played in the best of ways.

In the JHS video there is a montage of classic vintage octavers and it would bet that Josh based the design on many of those in the 50-57 second clip.

I'm considering one of these as it gets similar up/down octaves to the EHX Bass Micro Synth (sub and octave) in a smaller package that would pair well with other pedals in my use.
