If you like what you do and are good at it, you probably also don't feel a need to retire at some designated age.
I do believe you're the one who threw down the gauntlet. But it has been my pleasure.
I'm happy you're happy. But it's not an either/or proposition. If you had bothered to read the earlier posts, you would have seen that many of us actually enjoy what we do. If anyone thinks I'm "pissed off" or advocate chasing a buck for a buck's sake, they don't know me at all (not that I mind in this particular case). I have never been motivated by money and will never get rich doing what I do. However, I do think "just spread peace and love, and money will track you down and start humping your leg" is pretty irresponsible advice to give people who can't pay their bills. My tolerance for that kind of idiotic kumbaya nonsense is pretty low, and I'll throw the BS flag when I see it. Hopefully, your disciples will see it too.

You will get what you give. If I spread love and peace, and I inspire others to do the same, the world becomes a better place and those whom I interact with are more likely to repay me in kind. I give a lot of my time and money and as I am generous, those who I deal with are incredibly generous in return. Some repay with wonderful acts of love and kindness and some with money. No matter, it's all good.
When you live life with passion, and dedicate your life to doing what you love, what you create from that is most definitely something people want...and will pay for. No matter what it is.
Go ahead and think of it as BS. Makes no difference to me.

Thank you for that. It's this kind of smarmy, ego-driven, "follow your heart", Utopian drivel that nearly destroyed me and ruined my life.

Oooh! Oooh! That sounds like fun! I'll try that one next.
On the other hand, I know a lot of people who do follow the path of their heart and do just fine. Most of my musician friends fall into that category, as a matter of fact. Just because it didn't work for you doesn't mean it won't work for anyone else. Like Jon Packard (among many others on this site), I'm proud to call myself a professional musician, and happy to report that life is good. I get to play the bass every day, teach others to improve as bassists and musicians, and have a family. I guess one person's "utopian drivel" might be someone else's utopia, what?
And FWIW, the choice to balance the issue of following what feeds your soul versus what fills your bank account is a very personal one that every person should come to terms with at some point or another. It takes all kinds to make the world go round...if some of them can manage to do something that makes them happy for a living, more power to 'em, says I.
