john campbell- lamb of god?

I'm not a LOG fan, however, I've heard isolated bass tracks and that guy's tighter than a frog's a$$. 
Just search for his name on the forum. You'll find plenty of opinions. He's an under rated bass player in my eyes. I have a lot of difficulty just trying to duplicate some of his stuff. How the hell he keeps up with Willie and Mark, I'll never comprehend. It's why I've been working on speed drills lately. Almost exclusively because of him.
I haven't heard anything from him that 'impressed' me. Since it's LOG, I shouldn't have been expecting it. Not trying to say that LOG is terrible or anything, just that they're style isn't the likes of some of the musicians I am 'impressed' with.
I've seen him play live, and he is a solid player. He does what he does, and he does it well.
Squire is one of my main influences, and I never played a song with a pick before... so there ya go.

Campbell is pretty FTW. I can hear him just fine on "Sacrament" and "Wrath". Before that yeah he was pretty buried but when you see/hear their earlier live stuff and the riffs he has to match it's freaking sweet.

I think he is a great bassist, Impressive speed and complexity wise but not so much on fancy stuff. I really like his sound, especially on Wrath.

Well honestly it's not like there's a lot of room to "wing it" with LOG or much any thrash...
For Wrath there's a cool BP Mag article on how he got the tone. IIRC it was bass-->BDDI (as effect pedal only-not DI'd)-->400+-->Powerhouse 810 and miked with a Senn 421 into an 1176 compressor and straight to the board. No DI'd tracks or anything really which is how they got that raw aggressive sound. The iso'd tracks from Wrath sound glorious.
Campbell is perfect for the type of music the band plays. He does a great job with his bass live in bringing out the guitars and bass drum, studio sound isn't the best, but what he does is perfect for the band and I really like Lamb of God.

When I saw them in May '09 you could actually hear him in the live mix as well, which I thought was cool.
His mix on Killadelphia is actually fairly high for a live album.

That tune is awesome. Easily my fave riff of '09.
Also listen to his Wrath tracks vs. his tone for Sacrament and earlier and yeah- all big and beefy!

Never noticed him until the Wrath album ( not that I was listening to much LOG ). That is a great album for metal bass. Thick and crunchy tone. And up in the mix.
Pick bassists have their place, and I think everyone should be able to play with a pick when called for. But I also feel the same way about tap, and slap technique.
And for metal you need a pick 99% of the time. For that attack and tone. Sure you can get away with a finger style, but playing with a pick has its advantages when it comes to that style of music.

Sweet atleast i know isn't shunned! Only reason is cus my bros (guitar and drums) want me to do some covers with them and I've been practicing some but can't even keep up on RedNeck which is one of the songs were doing but it's hard as helllll!!!!!, and for those who can't really hear him try using better headphones like noise cancelling, or put the treble/bass up in the EQ if u got that feature on ur players
Although buried in the mix (hello!) John is very very good, plays some tough lines. A BIG problem w/ modern metal: Bass is assumed in the mix and hardly audible, but that's for another post
Metal is too broad of a genre, maybe thrash/speed metal and other sub genres, but metal itself can be both, especially with experienced bassists. I know a couple finger bassists who can play and make it sound as attack like as if they had a pick.
