John East Marcus Retro 01

I was thinking of swapping the preamp in my Marcus Miller Jazz Bass with one of these. Is it worth the $325-$350 price to upgrade?

I put a John East pre in my Modulus VJ4 and couldn't be happier. It was simple to install and is one of the best sounding active setups I've heard. It also has a toggle to cut the pre back to passive in case you need that sound

John East preamps are amazing, but the price is jacked due to the currency conversion. If you really love that bass, it's worth it!

The marcus version is more scooped than the regular retro. You can get either one for Marcus bass. I got the Marcus Retro and if you like the marcus tone, thats it. If you want a little more mids then I would get the regular one. I think the marcus pre should actually come with that bass. It's worth the dough.

Found this thread through a Google search.

I own a MIJ MM and am looking into this pre amp. I found them here on BestBassGear.com and they are running $325 - $350. If anyone has one, do you have to assemble it? I'm wondering if it will come as pictured and I can just solder it in, or do I have to assemble it to the scratch guard from, well, scratch?
