Count me in!
I used to joke that I'd be buried with my Lado F2, although the more I play it the more serious that statement becomes! Unbelievable bass - isn't one thing I don't love about it. More bassists need to try these out - I find it incredible that they aren't more popular than they are.

My bass is a Lado Solo that I have had for over 20 years ( I think it was made late 1970's) and would not trade it for the world. It's scratched and dented and is beat up but nothing I have every tried plays or sounds as good as my Lado. I've had other guitars but I never played them as I always went back to the Lado

I think I paid $400 for it many years ago - now I need to win the lottery so I can add more Lado's to my collection.

Is there another bass that sounds as good ? or plays as good as a Lado? I have yet to find one

Sign me up. I'll post pics when i can. i have a Lado CND H-300( not to be confused with a hwak that's been made out of plywood in Korea. This is a H-300 with varitone Switch. I also have a Falcon Bass and a Solo Bass. I'll post pics soon. Lado is the best in quality and craftsmanship. I met Joe last month and he's a great and humble man. Lado 4 Life!

I have had a Lado Solo II for almost 30 years. I bought it in Toronto back in '84 when I was switching from playing rhythm electric to bass. I traded my 6 string electric straight up for this Lado. Back in the day - they were asking $600 for this bass. I traded them my electric guitar that I had paid $600 for a year or two earlier. The electric guitar was a 1972 Gibson Les Paul Custom - but I still got the better end of the deal.

Reviving this thread:
I've got a J.K. Lado & Co Solo lefty bass from 1983 that belonged to Chris Brockway who was the bass player for Lee Aaron "Metal Queen" and was used on their tour in 1985 being played in several different countries. I also have the original flight case used on tour.
Here's a video of this same bass being played on tour in 1985 followed up by pics:

It may be a one off.

serial number has nothing to do with manufacturing date. They were literally serial numbers. If he made another after yours, it’d be 102 whether he (they?) made a week later or 2 years later. Best to just go to the source and email Joe Kovacic - he is retired or at least 95% so but still does answer some emails.

I would put the model to maybe late 90’s ?

I got in contact with the second owner who was told by the shop the guy got it in the early 80s. I emailed Joe and might try to call the number on the Lado Facebook page tomorrow and see. Either way I love it, it's been a long 5 or 6 years trying to find one

Definitely not early 80’s. Logos were different then. Models in the early 80’s were Falcons. Super falcons and solos. Then came earth, condors. After that classic and specials.


It could be a custom one off made in the eighties and it does look a lot like a Spector so the customer may have ordered it with that in mind. At any rate - if anyone knows for sure - it’d be Joe…

So someone in a Facebook group remembers seeing it brand new in Toronto around 1988, it has the made in west Germany tuners so I guess it makes sense it's before the wall came down lol
