I noted a number of people had problems with these so I bought a Link Removed instead. More $ though ($US69 at Amazon), but this type of device (portable headphone amp) is excellent especially if you would like to practice by yourself outdoors as well and you might find it useful to add later if you get a combo amp now.

Thanks for tip. Had been looking at the Fender Plug but was told via its web chat that would not work with a bass. The NUX is cheaper than fender plug with more features.
