Joyo Scylla "modification"

Just received my Joyo Scylla in the mail and I've already modified it. Lol! This one is easy enough that just about anyone should be able to do it.

When I first started looking at this thing weeks ago, I saw someone comment that it looked like it had a basic gain reduction indicator built in to the on/off indicator but it was really faint. And, it is very faint. On off indicator is green and when is reducing gain, it turns white. Not much of a difference there.

Pulled it apart and there are a total of 3 smd LEDs under the jewel, two green LEDs and one red. I tried covering one green and the reduction indicator was still really faint. Covered both and now it's much more visible! I didn't quite seal the tape around the LEDs do you still get a bit of green leaking to give you that bypass indicator but you can easily block the green completely because the accent lights can be set to sync with the bypass status. You could then use the one on top just to show gain reduction.

Did the same to mine. It's a great idea. Still enough green to see it on. But there's no mistaking when the red LED turn on.

I also just completed this mod and I can confirm 140% improvement :-)

Now the light clearly turns red while the pedal is compressing. While not compressing the light is still moderately bright green, but not as bright as before the mod. The large wrap around LED on the front side of the pedal is unchanged.

I can't believe JOYO designed the pedal with 2 green and only 1 red LED. The greens almost completely overpower the poor red, rendering it almost useless. I put duct tape (ran out of electrical tape) on both the greens (same as previous posters). Due to the close proximity of the LEDs I couldn't cover the sides of the green LEDs - but I suspect that's good, as it allows some green to illuminate the light when the red isn't on.

I will also note that I'm very happy with the pedal. Does a good job, easy to use, no noise. An excellent value. I've heard that the attack and release knobs operate backward, but I haven't played with it enough to verify. I'm pretty happy with all knobs set close to noon.

Oops looks like I may have bricked this pedal, when I was attempting this mod the output would not come off, yanked it a bit too much and the pot has separated from the circuit board, new Scylla pedal ordered and I will attempt the mod again when it arrives but will be much more careful next time.

That's too bad, did it happen when trying to take off the output knob? Try using a string/shoelace on a new scylla, put in under the knob and pull straight up.

It did yes, I will try putting a string/shoelace under, thanks for the suggestion.

I will definitely be doing the mod as the bass I am using (Gretsch junior jet) has very hot pickups so even with the input on minimum it is still triggering the compression so I want to tweak my settings so that it just catches the peaks so it will be very useful to be able to see the led more clearly.
