Judgement day: Mesa M2000 vs GK 800RB

My 800RB is one of the older models and doesn't seem to like being played for longer than like 4 hours with the settings I have. I play pretty loud stuff (we're a 3 piece trying to sound like an 8 piece) and it farts out about 3 or so hours into a long rehearsal. I just took the lid off, keep any sort of liquids (i.e. beer) very, very far away, and unplug it when it's not being used.

Just typing that out makes me feel like a putz because of how unsafe it is. I've been meaning to mod it somehow (install an exhaust fan by cutting a hole in the top) but that's so much work. I like shoot-r's solution quite a bit better.

I'm saying the M2000 sounds hollow.....but you think it sounds like solid.....dude........

After two rehearsals, the 800RB wins.
I need to be more aware of volume since I've being dominating.....which isn't good.

I think that ^. I messed with one in a store a couple years ago, and couldn't find much usable tone in over an hour of knob diddling. Too bad, because I love the illusion of control all those knobs, switches and faders promise. It just doesn't deliver.

Each channel does one sound really well, and the various amounts of EQ just are variations of that particular sound.

I like the M2000, but it lacks thump/thickness in the low to lower mids. Lots of low end/sub low end though.

Why don't you just get a small fan and point it at the heat sink? I always thought it was a nice feature that the amp was sealed off with just the heat sink exposed, you wouldn't want to expose the circuits to the elements.

man i am glad you choose GK, i owned and used an rb1001 for years and even after one rehearsal with your mesa, i wouldnt go back, i guess your gain is my gain....... glad we are both happy, and now i dont have to always tote my SVT around....:hyper:

Yeah, we're all looking for different things tonally.:) I'm glad you're happy!

The Mesa was a nice amp, for sure.
Just not what I was going for.
