Just got back from seeing Judith Owen and Leland Sklar at the Ark in Ann Arbor. Five really excellent musicians, actually--besides Sklar, two string players, and a percussionist (Pedro Segundo) who demonstrated lots of range with minimal means (mainly cahon). And Judith Owen (singing and playing piano), besides being a top-notch musician, was funny and entertaining.
So, if they come to a place near you, don't pass up the opportunity. This was a small room, and tickets were cheap, so, great opportunity to see a legendary bassist prominently featured and up close. Unfortunately it looks like most of the rest of their dates on this tour are as openers rather than headliners, so probably bigger places at higher prices, but I'm sure it's still a good time.
While hawking the merchandise between songs, she also said that the purchase of her album on vinyl came with the chance to touch "the beard". I didn't test this claim!
