Jumbo Frets

Why would anybody want jumbo frets on their bass?

Probably the same effect as a scalloped fretboard but I'm sure I will be corrected.

my guess is that it generally, pressure and placement of the fingers is less important than with smaller frets.

I would say pressure and placement would be more important considering intonation.

I've a got bass with "normal frets", one with low frets, one with high (jumbo) frets...(and one with no frets )
anyway...I really don't notice much difference between any of them other than this...on the bass with the jumbos, I can get a much more pronounced pressure vibrato from the instrument. Hence, I actually think that the bass is more responsive to touch. I'm not much of a string bender...if I were, I'd say a smaller fret would work better..

From the point of view of a fretless player, the bigger the fret is the more of a speed-bump effect it has. Therefore I like small frets. It wasn't until I found low profile frets that I discovered I can actually play a bass with frets.

when my basses need re-fretting, then I'll have vintage profile frets installed... until then, I'm gonna try my hardest to wear the current ones out...

I hate Jumbo frets, but no production basses in my budget range have vintage profile ones...

Just about every Fender has standard (Medium) Fretwire........a lot of people like Jumbo frets for the wear aspect. Refrets are expensive, and not always in someones budget when they buy a bass.

My personal view, Fret size doesn't matter to ME, if it has a good set-up.
