Just ordered my Century

Here's a quick clip of the bass on "Autumn Leaves". I planned to put a hot little bebop solo right where it starts to fade out... but I've got to box the bass up before my UPS guy gets here... that and I can't bop to save my life :help: :rollno:

I went with the Gene Krupa style drums on this one 'cause I thought it would make for a cool take on the tune. It turned out OK, but it would probably be better if I had broken away more from the typical swing feel in the chord and melody parts. I tried, but I couldn't shake that feel. Habit is a beotch!

All bass parts went through my Alembic F1X preamp into the Lexicon Alpha USB interace into the PC & Sonar. For the bass line, I leaned on the neck pickup a bit (it sounds kinda P-bass-ish) and boosted the lows and mids. For the chords and lead parts, I leaned on the bridge pickup and set everything flat. Also for the chords and lead parts, I applied a shelf EQ in Sonar that knocked everything under 200 Hz down by 6 dB. That reduced the overlap in the low end and helped the bass line (which still has all that sub-200 Hz content) pop out a bit better.

Man, the bass plays and sounds great. You've got a real winner here, Mark!

Isn’t technology amazing? I am camping in the middle of the Imperial Sand Dunes, where a scene from Star Wars was filmed, and I can see and hear my new bass. Totally cool. Thanks again Greg, Gard, Keith, the bass sounds terrific! Hope it sounds as good on “The Cowboy Rides Away’ and “Rock Around the Clock” this weekend, I’m on the geriatrics tour for another month.

Well jeeez Greg you gonna send the poor man his new bass? That's it, I'm campin' out in Rocket's parkin' lot 'til my bass is done! If Greg has this bass much longer he's gonna put like five bardens in it!

Mark will receive the bass on Friday, and he's almost as far away from me as you are!! :bassist:

But I'm keeping ALL the Bardens for myself. Mwah-ha-ha-ha-hahhhhh!!!

I'd say it's closer to maple feel-wise, it's pretty tight grained. And tonally, I'd say it's also similar to Maple. Maybe not quite as snappy? Boy, we better get Gard's take...

Here's one I have with a spalted purple heart board:

Received my bass yesterday, incredible! Fit and finish is flawless, the wood is beyond description, and all the tone in the world. I fell asleep while playing it sitting on the couch this morning around 3. The family is awake now so I can hook up my amps and thump away. :bassist::bassist:
