man, you got a nice first bass for a nice price. much better than my first bass.

about your headphone practice amp. the only possible problem you could have is that the signal could be too much and distort the amp. if that's the case, just turn down your volume knob on the bass. it's as easy as that.

looks like you're well on your way.

only other thing i would say is after you've been plunking on it for a while and figure out if you like light or medium strings... take it to a good luthier and get it setup and dialed in with the strings you like. you'll be a happy man.

Looks like you got a hardshell case with it. That's a pretty darn good deal.
The headphone amp looks like a good thing for you with the long-haul trucking thing.
Try to be patient waiting for your amp and seeing how things sound before doing much else.
You might consider a pro set-up if you don't know how to do it. That will improve play a lot.

Wow, I'd say you came out with a great deal. Thats pretty sweet.

I wouln't worry about taking all the strings off at once. That must be for someone who needs a reference to get them back on or something. lol But seriously sometimes the strings all have to come off to service any guitar properly. I've done it to my basses and no problems so far!

Looks like a fun bass. I havent played a 5 string much but thats just comes down to what you like for function designe and sound.

Here's a thought: a zoom b2.1u gives you a built-in tuner, EQ, USB recording interface, a bunch of effects, it can be battery-powered for use as a portable headphone amp, and it's $150-$200.

Any ideas how I could make use of my down time on the road and practice. I own a simi truck and gone during the week but have room to practice but bringing an amp in not practicle. I have 110 volt in truck for flat screen, microwave and fridge but space is starting to get to be a premium.

I use a Korg PX4D for practice. It is a pretty awesome tool and they go for less than $100 on eBay.

I also connect my PC into the Aux input and use a piece of software called Guitar Pro, which will load tabs and import MIDI files. I can look at the bass tab play, memorize it, slow it down, then play over with the bass muted.

Issues with tabs is that they are sometimes not practical, or don't make sense (like a slide down on an open string, ***), but you can edit them at will.
