Just saw a coyote

Stay pretty close to that Shih Tzu when she goes out, I would guess that Coyote could smell her and came over that fence to grab her.
We see them almost daily right behind my house and there are seldom less than three, they pass by within 20 feet of our open wire fence unless my dog or dogs are out.
They have wiped out all the outdoor cats in this entire suburban development (4400 acres) and they have taken a few small dogs right off the end of the leash while owners were walking their small dogs at night.
We hear the whole pack at night celebrating when they get a kill, they are often only 60-80 feet back from our yard when the whole pack gathers.
My dog goes nuts when he sees or hears them, so they will not be hopping over my fence.
He is about 70 pounds of Pitbull and is generally a very docile dog but he would kill a coyote if he ever got a shot at one...he just hates them.

We live right next to the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, and there are a couple of coyotes who frequent our neighborhood. My wife saw them sitting in somebody's yard, watching TV through their window. They're kind of no big deal, but we wouldn't let our cats out, especially at night.

But I'm from Connecticut, and they were not seen there when I was a kid. Now they're frequently seen. My sister even had a coyote living under her house.

A few years ago, I was coming home late from a gig about 3:00 a.m. I was a few houses from mine when a large coyote walked up from the creek bed and right across the road in front of me. If I would have been 2 seconds faster, I would have hit it. There ended up being a pack of coyotes living on the mountainside behind my house. They would howl all night and were attacking deer and other critters in my yard. I would see their footprints in the snow on my back porch. Fortunately, they must have moved on after a few years since I don't hear them anymore.

We live in NE CT in a farm town on the edge of the suburbs. I hear coyotes howling at night every so often, it's pretty cool. I saw one a month or two ago as we were coming back late at night. It was scooting across the driveway a ways down.

A couple of years ago my wife was in her parents yard with our 2 year old daughter playing in the baby pool. She looked up and there was a coyote standing on the edge of the lawn. She picked up our daughter and brought her inside right away. Her parents live in a much more suburban town than us but its on the edge of a wooded area that runs through several towns and is swarming with deer.

I grew up down in Greenwich and about 8 years ago or so Kathie Lee Giffords dog was killed in or near her yard. Obviously that's a big house, in a neighborhood where the houses are all on big lots, but its also right on Greenwich Cove. Few would expect to see a coyote from the yacht club launch!

I read something recently that many of the coyotes we have here in the east are actually either Eastern (red) wolves or hybrid of coyotes and Eastern wolves. They've been known to take down deer and other large prey around here.

Still I'd rather have them then grizzly bears or lions like they get out West.

My beagles repeatedly tried chasing after coyotes when we lived in San Bernardino. Oddly enough, the coyotes seemed quite frightened by the beagles and their howling.

Coyotes have been seen walking the streets of Chicago at night. They seem to be thriving in the parks.
