I've played bass for a total of about 11 years. I started at 11 years old, my parents bought me a samick p bass copy for my birthday, it was like playing a recurve bow
. It was always a passion of mine, really enjoyed and excelled at it.
6 years ago, I met my wife. We started a family, and I started a new career with a 5 year apprenticeship. I ended up just not having any time to play, or have any hobbies really. But, about six months ago, I finished my apprenticeship, and found myself with a lot of time on my hands. I didn't know what to do with myself.
Then I got back into listening to old CD's. Weather report, graham central station, Curtis Mayfield, the list goes on. O yeah, I definatly got the itch. Luckily, I held onto all my old gear, but I didn't really have anything substantial, an old squire affinity, a Douglas 6 string, and a no name 50 watt combo. It was enough to at least scratch the itch.
I ended up picking up an ampeg ba108, just to have something with an aux in, that sounded decent for me. Little by little I started picking up my basses more and more. Got tired of that old squire, so I figured I'd up my game, and picked up a 2011 american standard jazz bass. Its been a dream of mine to own one since I was 11 yrs old, and man, its everything i could have hoped for. I've played some nice guitars before, but never owned one, and it feels great.
With all that said, I do love p basses, I've always had a knockoff or two laying around, and I thought it would be fun to mod one just the way I'd like it. I bought a few pieces here and there over the last couple weeks, and I've got a bill Lawrence p-46 on the way, which I am going crazy about but I just couldn't wait to slap together what I had.
I've been lurking here for the past 6 months and you guys have helped me get back in the swing of things, and I really do appreciate it. There's a great wealth of knowledge on this forum, I hope I can keep picking things up hear and putting them to use. But for now I'm just enjoying thumpin around the house, and driving the wife crazy! Thanks for helping to pull me back in, whether you knew it or not!
