As I said in another McCartney thread, he is notorious for being extraordinarily cheap.

I read an interview with a vintage guitar dealer's experience with Sir Paul.
SP had publicly talked about never being able to find a vintage left-handed Gibson Les Paul. The dealer found one and was ready to buy it on SP's behalf.
When he told Macca about the price, he said "Ohhhh...now that's a lot of money" and declined.
I guess that's why he never owned one.

Some years later, Gibson presented him with a new one. During the presentation, Macca talked about wanting one as a youngster when he couldn't afford one, and now that he could afford one, they gave it to him for free.
There's a difference in being able to afford something and being willing to actually pay for it.

He also has a very pricey Wal 5-string and was shocked because I don’t think he’d pay for one of those! I’d bet my granny’s pearls he was gifted the Wal!

I don't either. I liked Wings but the Beatles were on a whole different plane. A much higher plane!

His lack of knowledge regarding how poorly his fellow musicians were getting paid, and his lack of empathy at their struggling financial status, seems to be the mindset of many solo artists. I have worked with a ton of guys doing club dates in New York that were hired guns for many A-listers. They were all financially struggling. Imagine playing too 20,000 people in Egypt, and coming home after almost a year of touring with $60,000. And trying to support a wife, a child, and rent in New York city’s Metro area. There’s another film called “sideman“, which also clearly depicts how poorly hired musicians get paid in an a list act.

Have not yet seen Man on the Run, but i did see Sideman and was very good.

i bought a wal pro 1 in the 80s and it cost me about 500 quid. certainly no more than that. i sold it for 200 and sometimes wake up in a cold sweat.

Both of my Wals in the mid '80s were £600 (plus £100 for a case, or £250 for a flight case) with a build time of around 5 weeks after ordering.

Years ago I read a story about how he invited the Wings band members over to his place for dinner. After that they stopped off at a takeaway for hamburgers because the meal was quite small. It may have been bs but sounds correct given the other stories.

I wonder if it was due to Paul and Linda being vegetarian and the other members missed the meat. Linda made and sold vegetarian foods under 'Linda McCartney Foods' for a long time.
