I read an interview with a vintage guitar dealer's experience with Sir Paul.As I said in another McCartney thread, he is notorious for being extraordinarily cheap.
SP had publicly talked about never being able to find a vintage left-handed Gibson Les Paul. The dealer found one and was ready to buy it on SP's behalf.
When he told Macca about the price, he said "Ohhhh...now that's a lot of money" and declined.
I guess that's why he never owned one.
Some years later, Gibson presented him with a new one. During the presentation, Macca talked about wanting one as a youngster when he couldn't afford one, and now that he could afford one, they gave it to him for free.
There's a difference in being able to afford something and being willing to actually pay for it.
