how such a legendary professional and educater as Carol Kaye can be so wrong about intonation on a bass when she talks about pulling the saddles back. I adjust intonation frequently as I make adjustments to the neck and string height, usually around seasonal climate changes. No rant or flames please. Just wondering. Huge respect for CK as she has taught me much and gave us many great basslines. Bob

You've been around a long time Bob and you should know better than to start a thread that you should know by now will cause controversy, bad feelings and accomplish nothing worthwhile. Instead you could just share your experience with doing it and maybe offer some of the newer players a few tips that would help them.

Just because someone is an expert in one part of their field doesn't make them an expert in all aspects of their field.

I have taken a few lessons from her, and although I have allot of respect for her accomplishments I found her to be one of the most opinionated, self absorbed people I have ever met. She really makes me bite my tongue when she starts putting rock music down , saying how jazz is so much better, and that she had to "dumb down" to play rock. Check out her posts on her website about adjusting saddle "bridges"..LOL. when I questioned her about her "theory' she told me any tech that disagrees with her does not know what they are talking about...LOL. Another opinion from her I found amusing was when I brought a CS 64 J-bass to my first lesson with her, and she looked at me and said "Fender? Nobody use a Fender anymore! Ibanez is the best" Umm yea right lady. I use to really respect her, but shes a little too adamant regarding some of her opinions which she happens to be wrong about.
