The worst thing that can happen on a project like this is when the instrument doesn't come out
of the restoration as hoped for.
My experience with my project bass included much time and energy with my luthier and quite a bit of $$$ into a bass I thought had potential. That risk is something you should carefully think about. All in all, it was a very frustrating experience, although I learned a lot and was able to sell in the end for a nice profit.
