k, i cant decide, help!! (randomest thread on TB?)

k, this is gonna be a long post, so bear with me.

ive posted here before over a human base, back in the summer, well, its finally come time to buy a bass and i cant decide what to get.

first ill give you a little background...

ive been playing bass casually for 4 years, i would still consider myself an amateur (dont ask me to play anything over 16th notes).

i can compose a bit, (i can hear the music rly good, just have a hard time getting it onto the bass, that will come with practice though.) and i like composing slower, more melodic peices with lotsa harmonics.

as for style, i play everything. i play funk, metal, gospel, jazz (a bit, still hard for me), hard rock, classic rock, and a whole buncha other stuff. i enjoy almost every kind of music.

as of now, i currently have 0 gear. absolutely nothing. for the last 4 years ive played on my church's bass and my school's bass. ive always had a bass in the house, ive just never owned one.

i want a nice bass that will last me a while, something i can grow with.

so now i have about $1500-$1800 for a new bass (and im getting an an amp, (acoustic B200) but an amp isnt a problem, as i have access to alot of amps).

so here are my picks, i cant decide which one to get, these basses are absolutely completely different, which is my problem. i love all the sounds, but i have to choose one.

ive wanted this bass for about a year now, still my top contender.

pros:
amazing dry growl
glockenlang pre-amp
delano pickups
cheapest choice
deep set neck
wide variety of tones
gorgeous.

cons:
dont know how well it would play softer stuff


2) fender american deluxe ash - Invalid Link Removed

pros:
investment (in 50 years itl be worth a ton)
wicked jazz tone
beautiful

cons:
its a mainstream bass, sometimes i like having something a bit different
uhm, dont know how versatile the sound is, but id like to use it for just about everything, seems like the sound would get lost in the mix?

3) kinal kompact - Invalid Link Removed (last one on the page)

pros:
acoustic!! dont need an amp, but still has a peizo pickup for an amp
amazing tone!!! (looove the fretless tone on it)
fretless, ive always wanted a fretless, if i dont get one now, ill likely get a fretless as my next bass
handmade
small size

cons:
fretless? how hard is it gonna be to play fretless? i started on double bass, and didnt see to have a problem with it then....
uh... looks kinda funny, but in a good way
maybe not as versatile as the other basses?

so far looks like the top contender is the human bass, but id like to know what you guys think.

also, suggestions for other basses are appreciated,

Human Base. You like it, and all you have to do for softer stuff is play softer.

Though, a Jazz bass is definitely not going to get lost in the mix, so don't decide based on that misconception.

sry, just dont feel it with the laklands, i unno, ive tried them, they sound great they play great, but i just dont play that well on them, i unno what it is, but i feel all mechanical. i unno, just dont feel it on them..

As you can see from my avatar and signature, I am a Human Base convert! I can't recommend these basses enough. I loved my fretted so much that I went ahead and picked up a fretless model recently too. The versatility of tones is what really sold me and the glock preamp is so quiet on recordings! You will not be disappointed! For the price, it really cannot be beat

hey thanks alot!!

how do you think it compares to the jazz?

what kind of tones are you getting out of it? can you play softer stuff? without the bite?

the more i hear the jazz, the more im diggin it.

id love to hear sound clips if you have any.

+1 to that. Any bass that's well constructed will get a good reputation and hold its value. I don't know much about Humans- but they look to be pretty well put together. I'd go with this or the Jazz. (Personally I'd go the Jazz but I'm a sucker for traditional basses)

Don't get the Kinal at this stage. As good a bass as it is- I don't think you should go for a fretless short scale as your first instrument. Get it next. :D

haha, thanks, im only 16.

photography is actually my main passion, i started a company this summer (family portraits and low key commercial stuff) and worked hard. made enough for a new camera, some lighting gear, a new computer and a new bass. i likely wont get another chance to spend alot money on a bass for a good long while (5+ years, probably more seeing as ill be in uni) hence why im starting with a $1500 bass. but i know my stuff, i can read sheet music, i can play most stuff and im hoping to improve a ton, so i dont think an expensive bass is an unreasonable place to start out.

i live in a small town, so playing before i buy is a very hard thing to do. so im goin on word of mouth here.

ive tried fender jazz's and precision's before, and loved the feel.

i dont know how hard the short scale would be, but i started on double bass, and fretless didnt seem too hard there. but maybe its different on an electric, i havent tried it.

i dont think ill go with the kinal. as much as i looove the tone (love all fretless tones) i dont think im there yet, and i should prolly have a solid bass to start before i get into specialty sounds.
