Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

A coupla thoughts come to mind.

1. It's hard to judge tone by these recordings. I heard so many recordings of the UBass in the early days that didn't wow me, until bamm - one really did.

2. Most of us celebrate the deep tone we can get on these instruments, but I personally don't discard alternate tones. I think it's great that those strings yield something very different, and I think that something very different would sit well in many mixes.

I also suspect that the intonation is slightly off on the higher frets with these Pyramids.

BTW, I think that when reviewing an extra short scale bass with a fixed bridge, intonation should be one of the main features to demonstrate. As in, playing 12th fret position harmonic vs. fretted string on all strings.

I bought a sub ubass sunburst yesterday for 349 shipped. I asked the vendor why so cheap (after the purchase). He said his Kala rep suggested blowing them out as new ones were going to be at NAMM. He didn't know what the "new" would be. Any ideas?

Maybe it's just a new revision? I ordered a SUB end of 2012 for a special price and the 2013 SUB had a different bridge (black, not white).

I'm also thinking that a revision is probable (maybe easier battery access), but a fretless sub would be a welcome addition to the line.

I like the new sub. I live in a rural area, we never get fedex on sat. I was amazed when it shows shipped on fri and got the next day. Frets need dressed but the plan is to pull them any way. kudos to texas guitar ranch for their packing, price, fast ship.
