First of all, wow? Really odd. The band is Imperial Triumphant, and they are absolutely extreme experimental/blackened/death, but also peripherally in the jazz world; the drummer plays with Felix Pastorius and Mike Bendy. But, this is an ODD collab with Kenny G, and he has gone up quite a few notches in my eyes with this little number (I'm probably too influenced by Pat Metheny's words on Kenny G to have a truly objective opinion btw.)

I had the same thought. Not my thing, musically, but it works as the soundtrack for the artsy video. Even the framing of the band, visually, put them into the background most of the time.

Definitely going to check this out. I think Metheny was a little harsh on the G. (only a little), but his music is definitely insipid. The recent documentary was interesting, I got the feeling that Kenny is a highly functioning spectrum kid (I'm not a doctor, that's just the vibe I got).

I think Kenny G is a great player who's taste doesn't align with mine.

I feel the same way about Pat Metheny: great player, but a lot of his stuff is too cringey for me.

I think this is great: use an accomplished player as a hired gun where they play against type.

I think this works.

I saw "With Max Gorelick..."
Max is Kenny G's son, right?

The G-man had something going on pre-"Songbird" (namely, The Jeff Lorber Fusion).

Back to the video...reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut (a documentary, if there ever was one).

Go for it! Maybe you'll like 200 Motels, maybe you won't. But there is a lot of information in that film. So you have to give its density time to unfold, and it requires the viewer's attention for it to give its best. It's a time capsule sort of work. A must for Zappa fans, of course, and was a midnight movie stoner classic back in the day.
