TBH, I have often wondered why bassists don't use capos more often. Perhaps it's dat ol' debil peer pressure...

I use capos. They're very convenient to play drones without retuning all the time. If you set them properly they don't go sharp.

Could be. I have to admit that I only tried it once or twice, mostly as a joke. "If the guitar players can capo, so can I"
But usually, I am not given enough time to even deal with capos.

All of my basses are tuned DGCF. Instead of changing strings just to go hang out at jam night, I capo'd it at the 2nd fret to play some classic rock standards in E. Whats wrong with that?
When my band plays in drop c, I capo my five string on the first fret for C standard. But who cares? It's his style. I'm sure someone back in the day was saying "You guys heard of this Jaco guy? What's he think he's doing, using rounds on a fretless and fingering up on the neck? What a joke!"
