Key of F? Capo? c'mon!!!

I use capos. They're very convenient to play drones without retuning all the time. If you set them properly they don't go sharp.
If the guy likes it that's fine, I don't see it as a sin.

Could be. I have to admit that I only tried it once or twice, mostly as a joke. "If the guitar players can capo, so can I" :D

But usually, I am not given enough time to even deal with capos.

When my band plays in drop c, I capo my five string on the first fret for C standard. But who cares? It's his style. I'm sure someone back in the day was saying "You guys heard of this Jaco guy? What's he think he's doing, using rounds on a fretless and fingering up on the neck? What a joke!"

And nowadays that same person is crying in the corner.
