Yo, PF...not true, plenty of jazzers can't slap a note and wouldn't want to if their lives depended on it (Jaco never slapped for example), I'm certain with some effort and a bit of instruction that your fingerlength could be gotten around as far as playing fingerstyle, and finally there are several excellent jazz bassists that I've seen using a pick - Carol Kaye and Steve Swallow come immedately to mind. :D

(...and Erskine didn't stick around long enough to record with The 'Jackets). ;)

Why would anyone NOT take you seriously?
You do want to be able to 'converse' with any given musician on any given day, right?
(Study on your own & don't tell anybody) ;)
