Keyboard amp for Bass?

In my experience, keyboard amp will not work. I had a Roland xxx300? Keyboard amp. Killer amp but just did not sound like my bass amps. Just did not have big enough sound. It was loud, but struggled compared to my bass amps.

IMHO...A KC300 should work fine for bass. Whether you like the sound or not is another matter. I do, and you don't.

@Hogman99 Since you already have a keyboard amp, IMHO give it a try and judge for yourself.

How about Rumble 200/150 ? I have great tonal result with Elec.guitar , Keyboard arranger and V drum.

Why not? I’ve used a small keyboard combo amp (Yorkville BLOC40K) with my ABG for several years now and actually prefer it for that bass.

And to continue on my previous post... A lot of folks here on TB prefer a FRFR (full range, flat response) amp/cab combination, combined with any number of pedal or rack mount preamps, to a dedicated bass amp/cab combination. Take your favorite preamp (VT Bass, for example) and run it into a worthy keyboard amp, and there you go... Bass through FRFR.

For Christmas I treated myself to a Vintera Jazz Bass. There are a few ads in my area that are looking for retired individuals to play periodically at retirement homes, private parties and other small venues. Ill have more information moving forward. In the meantime, they are sending me a set list and I'm going to a practice next week. Ill probably rent an amp for the day for that or Im thinking to just go for a look and see. I have a couple of guitar amps but I'm not keen on hauling them around. Since I have a couple of keyboards and acoustic guitar, I was thinking about using a keyboard amp which I could use instead. Thoughts?

My very first amp was a Peavey keyboard amp. Worked alright and i did gig with it a few times back then.

And to the OP, I agree with consensus, for low vol gigs, a good KB amp should be fine. (Although, amp shopping is fun, so why not go shopping for a Bass amp?)

An issue with many keyboard amps is the relatively low input impedances which run around 50k ohms (as opposed to the 1 meg ohm inputs of most bass amps.)

This can dull the tone of a passive bass. If you use an active bass and/or use buffered pedals (including most pedal tuners) the lower impedance input won't be an issue.

some keyboard amps can sound exceptionally good for bass,

some will sound not so great but still better than a guitar amp.

depends on many factors, but overall it's not the worst thing.

Firstly, thanks to all for the comments and information. What I elected to do is at some point in time I will get a small bass amp.The Traynor Small Bloc really intrests me, however I've looked at some small GK and Hartke which both sound good. Rumble is a good option too.The keyboard amp route is not in the picture. The ones I've checked out are often heavy and more expensive. The used ones I've seen are either beat up or to expensive. are Besides my bass playing is better than my keyboard acumen, that's a road I won't travel. As some have suggested (not here) my guitar amps is a no go. They are to heavy to haul around and they are my "babies". If anything ever happened to them, well you know.

I had one of those in college in the early 90’s. Can’t remember if it had a 12 or 15. Was serviceable, but the tone was pretty sterile.
