Hey Guys,
Although I'm new to bass, I've been practicing air bass for decades, so visually, I'm pretty much world class. All I need to do now is figure out the music part. hehe
I'm a trained keyboard player and have dabbled in drums and guitar for years. My music theory is pretty strong, so I'm hoping I can leverage that to master my instrument more quickly. I picked up an Ibanez GSR200 bass a while back, just to have as a house bass in my studio. I have to admit, it sounds pretty good to me. Even my main bassist when I play keys, who has a breath-taking array of Fender, Rickenbacker, Lakeland and custom basses with a bazillion strings, thinks it's a very good starter bass.
I got recruited to play bass in a band of old men playing original punk rock. All the players are quite experienced and I'm really lucky to play with a phenomenal drummer who is an adjuct professor of jazz percussion at the state university here in NC. So, I'm totally outclassed, but having fun as hell, and my bandmates seem to think I'm doing well.
Most recent issue for me is muting open strings. Any tips on training videos or techniques y'all have found particularly helpful?
Here's a song I wrote recently. You can hear my sloppiness: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
