knights of cydonia effects (muse)

Yup, just a ric. If you want to add more grit, just kick on a big muff.

In the soloed track I think I can almost perceive a bit of that signature Animato-ness in the upper midrange. That could just as easily be the Marshall head, but after spending some time playing with midrangey OD blocks in the Ultra, that's what I think I hear. At the very least, a mix with the straight-ahead amp sound and the Animato.

Still, that's splitting hairs. A good amp with the preamp tubes relatively cranked, a good helping of high mids and a Ric will get you there, close enough for any setting.

If there is some animato, it is slight and out of character simply for the recording.

The marshall heads do not get that break up type sound. Mine is slightly modified with an old 1960's Telefunken tube in the preamp. Makes things buttery, but never breaks up.

Yup. That is Animato and clean, just like Hyper Music, Apocalypse Please and a slew of others... But this time with a Ric behind it.

I do want to point this out. That treble smack in the clip is NOT THE ANIMATO!!!! That is the Ric sound coming through the pedal.

The animato is featured in Hypermusic, and is less clanky than this one.

*nods* Agreed.

I'll just go ahead and leave this here: YouTube - Knights Of Cydonia (Bass) ~ Muse

Make sure you switch to 480 to give as much of the finger as is (for practical purposes) possible to YouTube's audio converters. :D
You can get EXACTLY that sound out of a Ashdown Hyperdrive.
I don't use the pedal - I don't like it sounds. But that's just me, doesn't have to be you.
