knob current sound

Hello, I'm a bass novice and bought a second-hand bass. Its balance knob will produce current sound when it turns, and everything is normal when it doesn't turn. Is there any way to solve this problem? Thanks for the answer, the post is written using a translator, if there is an error, please forgive.

Is it an active bass? (with battery) If so, it could be a leaking capacitor in the preamp. Noisy potentiometers are generally caused by DC voltage being present, which the capacitor should block.

If it is a passive bass, DC could also be coming from the amplifier or an effects pedal, again with a leaky capacitor the likely source.

i think the translator is just trying to tell us the knob makes static-y noise when you turn it

contact cleaner like deoxit red sprayed into the pot from inside might fix it
