Knox and Sollecito Cleared.

How did it surprise you about Knox? On this side of the pond, it looked obvious she was innocent.

Not going further than saying this. She was a pawn for anti-american sentiment and lifestyle as seen beyond.

Ah, OK. I know what you mean about that. Knox may be free to go, but her life is mostly ruined now.

Amanda is from Seattle, so we have been getting all kinds of news coverage. They did an interview with Meredith's family recently about how people are so focused on Amanda, that people are forgetting about Meredith. It was a sad interview.

If anyone is familiar with the Italian court system, this isn't a particular surprise, particularly if it is something that offends Italian nationalism. The basis of their law is very different from American law, so I think it is sometimes difficult for us to comprehend the progression of Italian judicial cases.
Anyway, her life is ruined, too, so really it's great for everybody.

All I can say is that I was chocked to learn she did not hesitate to blame the murder on an innocent black bar owner Patrick Lumumba

Yeah, this is the same judicial system that is prosecuting three seismologists for not predicting an earthquake.
I'm sure 2-3 years from now she'll come out with an autobiography and a made-for-TV movie to cash in on the whole thing.

Meredith Kercher was found in her flat, the flat she shared with Knoxx. The idea that there is no DNA evidence is sketchy at best considering you would expect cross contamination in such a scene.
DNA is one tool in the tool kit.
The concept of it being anti-american is laughable.
To my understanding, there is still someone in prison for the assualt and murder. He had claimed that Knoxx and Sollecito helped him. Knoxx and Sollecito have had their convictions overturned (however Knoxx still submitted a false statement, possibly under questionable circumstance).
The american legal system is far from perfect either. Prison is big business and the US has a fairly substantial lead when it comes to the number of people incarcerated per capita.
The court said they are innocent, so I have to believe in it.
Still, a lot of questions remain unanswered...Why did she blame someone who was clearly innocent (she's been condemned for this)? Why did Sollecito say that he spent that night at the computer, when evidences proved that his computer was off? And why did he call the police saying that someone entered the house illegally (broken window) but nothing was stolen, even before Amanda's flatmates had time to check if actually something had been stolen? Why did Amanda found blood in the bathroom and simply took a shower, as if nothing happened? Do you really think that Rudy Guede is the only one guilty?
Living in Perugia, I can only say that here the general consensus is that the judges are wrong, and that Raffaele and Amanda are free only for lack of proofs, not because they are (completely) innocent.
Also, you can costantly hear stories about money exchanges, massonery and stuff, definitely not something I want to discuss here.

Actually, they are prosecuted for a wrong risk assessment. But I recognize they are not to blame, the ones to blame are those who built the city without considering the anti-seismic rules (bad stories of mafias, corruption...)
I don't think this proves anybody's "innocence" except in the strict legal sense of "innocent until proven guilty" - which is of course what matters in court, quite rightly.

There was DNA- there was DNA on a bunch of items (I believe that the "incriminating" piece of DNA was on a bra clasp). The problem is that a) it wasn't from important sources (ie, blood, semen), and b) it was taken something like 46 days after the fact. Just finding DNA doesn't prove anything, particularly if it doesn't show time and circumstance. They were roommates, so there will be DNA on everything- hair, skin, etc. The methodology behind the collection of the DNA was one of the main reasons why their appeal was successful.
Who said the American legal system was perfect? I said it's hard for Americans to wrap their mind around the Italian justice system because they don't work on the "innocent until proven guilty" presumption that is so ingrained in us here.
See above- that's not how it works there. She actually had to prove that she wasn't there.

Where you have an individual(s) who is/are probably guilty, but without enough to convict them "beyond a shadow of a doubt" so they are proclaimed innocent by the law.
This case is so bizarre. What gets me is "motive". What the hell would the motive be in something like this? You dont just tie someone to a bed and start taking turns stabbing them...there's more to it, I just don't know what. Crazy stuff
