Double Bass Kolstein or Oak?

Hello boys and girls, I am a classical/jazz bassist in need of new rosin. Specifically I am going to switch from Pop's to either Kolstein All Weather or Oak Soft Plus. Which one should I get?

Why do you want/need to switch? What do you dislike/like about Pop's? What draws you towards Kolstein or Oak?

The answers to these, and likely many more questions will likely help us make a more educated suggestion. Otherwise, you are in for another "This is my favourite rosin" "Pop's only stays fresh for 72 hours" or some other type of "Debate".

The reason why I am not liking Pop's is because every time I put it on, even if just one swipe, I start getting a "papery" sound that doesn't go away for a while (I actually didn't rosin this morning and the sound was still there when I did an audition for a youth symphony) and it is not very smooth sounding when the initial "papery" sound goes away. I only use one swipe every 2-3 days when I am practicing. Sometimes after I practice for two hours and go back in five hours to mess around the rosin stops being sticky. And yes I have had my bow rehaired within the last six months and was a foray back into unbleached white hair after a year of black hair. Why Kolstein or Oak? Mainly because I have heard great things from them and how they supposedly produce a smoother sound.

Both.

I have various grades of both the Oak and Kolstein's.

Depends on temperature and humidity, for me, in terms of which particular one is the "it" at the moment...

They all work well...

Grab the Kolstein Soft, while you are at it. Your bass will really move some air...

I actually bought some Kolstein Soft from Lemur after reading this (received it yesterday) and my,my,my my bass sounds better.

I love Oak, but in Houston Kolstein all weather and fresh Pops are it.
