Theres been a thread on this before, but this is a bit different.

I have an RD artist, and ampeg 450h with 15E cab.

I am tyring to hit the tone he had through 1991 with his RD and svt 400.
His sound is kinda thumpy, less defined, but i can only ever get a more top ended tone.

oddly if i stand behind my amp the sound i can hear is more what i want.

Sorry I don't know but I loved his tone when he played his ripper.

Hi, in my band we do a lot of Nirvana covers and I find similar problems... I think either a mid-boosted neck pickup or a less treble bridge pickup works best. A fresh set of rotosounds help a lot and a light layer of fuzz works really well to get that bungy-bitey sound Krist had. You definitely have the right bass but maybe watch some of his live performances and pause when it does a zoom-up of him playing so you can see what settings he has on the artist. I've done that a few times and I seem to notice he alternates between using the 'string thru' and 'top load' options: Live at Paramount 1991 he uses string thru and live at Reading 1992 he uses top load...
