KT66's in a V4?

I have done a decent amount of reading around here about all the different kinds of tubes you can throw in the power section of a v4, and have run in to many people's strong opinions on using 6550's or 6L6GC's or the original 7027's and all that. I have noticed that KT66's generally get mentioned as an option for a replacement, which sounds interesting, as i have never heard of any bass players using them, but i cannot really find anyone's opinion or experiences with them.


Anyone taken them for a spin?

They came as standard in the old Marshall JTM45. They are far larger than the 7027 at least the GE ones were. I still have a pair. Same problem with them is that their heater draw is 1.25A compared to 0.9A. I'm not sure if you could actually get them to fit physically. If they do you'll get no more power than the 7027.

Close. I have one with KT77's in it. It requires a mod, but dang it puts out.

With respect Jack the two tubes are in no way connected despite the "KT". The KT77 is a beam tetrode more closely related to the 6L6 and 7027 family. The JTM45 never came stock with '77s in them. For other readers the KT stands for Kinkless Tetrode.
