Here's my 1992 Exfactor made by Phil shortly after fender stopped making them.

It was asked in the previous (now closed) thread if Phil had passed the torch to anyone.
The answer to this is yes. However I don't believe 'production' will resume for standard models.

Phil's site refers all emails for maintenance to Mike Haney in Reading, PA. Mike is a dear friend, and a stunning luthier. If anyone could come close to Phil's attention to detail it's Mike.

Mike studied with Phil in Santa Barbara and remained a very close friend until the end. Phil made sure that Mike understood every nuance of his basses. Mike has also studied and worked with Frank Finocchio, and has also studied under Grit Laskin. I'll tell you that he makes a wonderful guitar.
I can attest to Mike's ability, and work ethic. Your Kubickis will be safe in his hands.

Thanks for the info guys, I was very saddened to learn of Phil's passing. It's nice to know about mr Haney, it gives me some comfort in knowing that there will be someone who can repair or restore Exfactors, to the extent that Phil could have done, should there be a need.

Saddened beyond words really. And doubly so that I found out just today and am thus late to the wake.

Some players go decades looking for that perfect instrument. I was lucky to find the one for me as a young player and haven't ever looked back. Phil's instrument has served me well and continues to do so.

Here is my Flamed Honduran Mahogany. He told me it was the 5th one he made. Got it in July 2007. So sad to hear of his passing.

Extremely saddened on hearing about Phil's passing. What a great man! I feel privileged to be playing one of his basses which he sold to me last year. He will be greatly missed. RIP Philip Kubicki.

I was wondering if I could get a little help on this. Both my active switches give a little noise, it goes off when I switch to passive. Although you can't hear it on a big rig but on a smaller rig/amp there is a certain level of noise on the active switches.

I had emailed Phil shortly before he passed about a repair. Mike emailed me a day or two after phil passed saying that he would be taking over repairs and restoration. He had all of the info from the emails between Phil and myself. Id try contacting him. His info is on his website.

Good to know, thanks KRick. I also heard that there are some bodies and necks Phil had made that have not been assembled yet but may come available in the future, making them the last Kubicki basses. So it may not be quite entirely over for the Ex-Factor yet.

Anyone else play a fretless Factor? I'm curious to hear your impression. I'm quite happy with mine but am considering getting the fingerboard coated. Thoughts?
