Kubicki Drop D solution

Interesting. I have a Kubicki, and the extension is great. It is really easy to grab a quick D, or to play a drop D riff. The only downside is that a lot of strings work fine on three strings but start to taper on the E due to the longer scale. It depends on where the taper begins whether it matters, though.

The only other place I’ve seen this is on a double bass. Does anybody know which came first? Was the Kubicki extension inspired by the double bass, or was it the other way around?
