Kustom KBA 65

If set up on a stand it will probably be OK for the studio. It probably lacks enough power for gigs with a drummer.
Kustom makes some bigger amps that I'm curious about, like the KBA 115c, which has 200 watts and a 15" speaker... That should be enough for gigs without PA support.
This thread is a little stale, but I just found it. I have had a KBA65 for years but I am entering a whole new love affair with her.
A primary gigging amp, not so much - although it does have an XLR out. But it has become my primary jamming amp, for those times when showing up with a full rig is just not what's happening. It does the casual thing, and then some, very well.
Yes, she can hang with a drummer. Not in "pissing contest" situations, but when you are just making music, yeah. LOUD - I don't understand why these particular 65 watts do so much. I think I better know what I am doing with the controls, so that's part of it. But: LOUD. Too loud IMO to be near without earplugs, and that's with headroom to spare. A little big for a combo (56 lb.), but does double duty as a seat really well.
The tone works for me. I play mostly rock and like a pretty clean sound. But with that EQ and those effects, I'm guessing there are other options.
Plenty of features. I like the effects. Love the price. IMO a great combo.

I was playing with my KBA last night, and I notice when I get into it and boost the volume my tone begins to growl and moves away from being a warm deep tone. Most of the music I play is more tone than growl. I just picked this amp up a few nights ago, and just wanted to know if there is anything I can do to boost my volume without getting the growl? I love the amp, but need to improve my tone

I recently got this amp. Didn't have time to play a lot with it, but I think you have to turn up the Volume and not the Gain to get louder without distorting the sound.
Pluggin' in a Cort Action 5, I've cranked up the volume until my whole kitchen vibrated with the low B, without gettin' any growl. Just a clean thump
PS: left the Gain knob at 1 during the test, didn't turn it up, so my test is not complete yet
To get the most clean volume from an amp with a master and gain control, turn the master up nearly all the way and use the gain to set your volume. Leaving the bass knob below about 1:00 helps too, as well as boosting (or at least not cutting) the midrange controls is important too.
