hey, just posting this in case there's any dummies like me out there who are struggling to get low action on their L2500 tribute (or, indeed, any string through body bass). I've been struggling for 2 weeks since buying a 2nd hand Indonesian L2500. I love the tone and look but found it hard to get along with.
I'm so happy to have finally figured this out that any (deserved) ridicule directed at my way will feel like victory champagne splashing on my head.
Tapered strings going through the body gives high action. The tapered part needs to rest on the saddles.
Obvious, I know, but I did a bunch of google searches on a bunch of forums, going back to the early 2000s in my search results, and found nothing. Spent hours adjusting the bridge, leveled and crowned the last 8 frets, was considering lowering the nut a little.
Yes, I feel stupid but I'm so elated that I don't even care.
Now I have to modify the bridge as it's only held by 2 screws which looks like it has potential for catastrophe.
