L2K players nut width satasfaction?

My first couple of L2K's had the #5 neck, and yes it was hard for me to get used to. I'm fine with that width on a thinner neck, like my '62 AVS P-bass, but the chunkier G&L neck made that width tough for me. I have the 1.5" #8 neck now, and love it. There is also a less-seen 1 5/8" neck that's pretty comfy too. I went through several L2000s to find the perfect one, and the neck had much to do with it...they all sounded great.
i have a wide neck L-2ke. I thought I wouldn't like it in comparison with my skinny-neck SB-2, but I've actually grown quite fond of the wider neck on that bass.
I still prefer the 1.5 neck, but I've had no problem adjusting to it and I really don't notice that much of a difference.

Mine's an L-1500, which was mistakenly shipped with a #7 neck (1.75" nut, 12" radius) when it was supposed to be the #8 (1.5", 12"). I wanted the bass so badly that I gave it a try for a few days, but I just couldn't get into it. I'd put it down, then play one of my Fenders, and realize the G&L wouldn't get much use with that neck. After a long wait, I got the #8, and it's the easiest playing neck on any of my five basses. My Fenders are at least as comfortable, but the G&L plays with less effort.
The early basses had a 1 5/8, a carryover from the MusicMan days, but 1 1/2 was available as an option. My basses up to '93 have the 1 5/8 width and I think it is ideal.
At some point G&L switched to a 1 3/4 on the wider necks. My '04 is one and has a thin profile so it doesn't bug.
I find the 1.5 with a thin profile, like the Fender Geddy Lee, feels skinny and I can't cope. My SB-2 is beefy and works for me the Climax is thinner and it isn't as workable.

Well, my '80 G&L has a 1.75" and is thin. It is the most comfortable 1.75" neck I've played. I also believe the early stingray's were also 1.75" at the nut and this was carried on to the early G&L's. It seems to me the thin feel was also carried on, and with time they got chunkier. I believe the new stingray's are 1 5/8" at the nut.
Hmmm... I better doublecheck then. Dang where is Greg when I need him? His site list the older ones as having 1 11/16ths. I'll check my Sabre and 2KE and see what I have. Everything except my '04 and L5K's at 1 3/4 and my Climax, SB-2 and JB-2 at 1.5 are in between those 2 sizes.

I have the L-2000 Tribute which has the 1.3/4 nut and I'm still not used to it after almost a year. I emailed G&L and they said the 1.1/2 neck size is not offered on the Tribute models. I don't think that's fair to offer it on the U.S. models and not on the foreign made basses. But I'm "just" a bass player, so I guess it doesn't matter. 
1.75" is the standard width for an L2K, just like 1.5" is standard on the JB-2. I think it's more than fair considering that there are minimal differences between the USA models and the others. I would think those extra options to be part of the premium. If anything, you don't see Fender offering different neck options for their basses unless you get a custom shop.

I have owned several L2K's, first one was fairly new, the neck was a #8 (1.5" 12" radius), it was a comfy neck, but I didn't like the glossy finish.
The second one was pretty new too and it had a #7 neck (1.75" 12" radius) way too wide for my stubbs!
My current L2K (courtesy of Hillsidebass) is a bit older, the neck measures 1 5/8" at the nut, but it's a really thin profile and the radius "seems" to be around 12"... I really like the feel, the only change I'm going to make is having the edges of the fretboard rolled/rounded.
So far I've owned 8 G&L basses, not all at one time though... my fav neck is the #8, second choice is my current setup.

It feels like the G&L is just slightly thicker front to back than the standard jazz. But the difference after playing for a hour is phenominal. My hands get fatigued with really small necks (like my jaguar) after playing too long, but the G&L seems to be a perfect fit for me. I think the MM Sterling is very similar.
I actually prefer the wider nut, but then I feel at home on a five-string. A Fender Jazz neck is way too small for my hands.
My new (to me) L2000e has a l 5/8" nut width and I'm really loving it- it also has a thinner profile than my SB-2 (1 1/2") and L2500 (1 7/8"!- old L5500 neck)) as well. It's crazy how much difference 1/8" can make! I really have to change my playing style to move from one to another!

you're right, and I do prefer a jazz width.
Would I be crazy to have my L-1000 narrowed to a 1.5? I have thought of this many times, I love the depth and contour, but the string spacing is more than I desire. Some people have no problem altering a bass, but would it be a mistake to have that done?
To those who went from one width and/ or thickness neck to another, did you notice much of a difference in tone between them. Obviously, differences in neck and body wood and variances form one instrument to the next make alterations in tone. Any really huge differences in tone between necks or did the differences seem more subtle? thanks! tom
